Switching presentation or strength during a shortage is a prescribing decision rather than a substitution anybody should improvise.

I would put a moderate confidence on that and no more.

I read the earlier replies on Official shortage notices twice before writing this, because I had assumed the opposite and wanted to be sure I was disagreeing with what was said rather than what I expected.

Adding the measurement that post #43 says would settle it.

Worth stating the null on Official shortage notices before we explain it: the observation may be nothing. That possibility deserves a sentence and usually does not get one.

Post #47 and I disagree about the size of the effect, not about the direction.

Shortage-driven price movement is real and is a separate question from availability.

Posting it because the silence on this was starting to look like agreement.

Both are useful and different. The notice tells you the national position; the account tells you what is happening on the ground.

I have seen it go both ways, which is why I hedge.

Dose hold versus tapering: if a temporary shortage forces a gap, holding your dose and resuming when supply returns is different from gradually tapering. The two are different decisions.

I read post #88 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

International supply chains: a shortage in one country does not mean shortage in another. That is why ordering from multiple suppliers before a shortage gets bad is prudent if you can.

I checked the source rather than the summary, and they differ.
