Worth separating two things that post #60 runs together.
Worth stating the null on irish differences before we explain it: the observation may be nothing. That possibility deserves a sentence and usually does not get one.
b.osei, post #30: Adding the boring version of irish differences, because the interesting version keeps getting posted and the boring one is usually right. Check the ordinary explanations, in order, and stop when one of them accounts for what you are seeing. Most of the time the second one does. Go to post

Private prescribing arrangements differ in what they include, and the differences are more consequential than the headline price.

v.krastev, post #38: Pharmacy practice varies between pharmacies and is not deducible from the regulatory position. Two people can honestly report opposite experiences. I looked this up rather than remembered it, which is the right order. Go to post
Compounding pharmacies: UK allows compounding under specific conditions when a licensed product is unavailable. That is not a front-line option but becomes relevant during shortages.
I would rather say I do not know than round it up to an answer.
