Adding the boring version of Price changes, because the interesting version keeps getting posted and the boring one is usually right.
Check the ordinary explanations, in order, and stop when one of them accounts for what you are seeing. Most of the time the second one does.
Where somebody posts a comparison, the useful version states the date, the region and what was included.
It is a small point and it changes the answer, which is an awkward combination.
A cheaper option that arrives slowly has a cost in the form of running out, and people rarely price that.
This has been discussed before and I could not find the thread, so, again.
Post #153 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.
Cost per milligram is the only comparison that survives format differences, but even then it needs care. A pen and a vial are not the same product and cannot be compared on price per milligram alone because dead volume, wastage, and number of doses actually obtainable differ.
I have seen it go both ways, which is why I hedge.
Grateful for the specificity. Vague answers to this question are what sent me looking.
Price variation between pharmacies: identical prescriptions can cost different amounts at different pharmacies because pharmacies negotiate individually with insurers and manufacturers.
Adding a source would improve this post and I do not have one to hand.
