Talking to a therapist about this specifically — does this still hold?

Solved
Solved by m.stephanopoulos in post #9
Nothing here is medical advice and several members in this subcategory say plainly that they are describing their own experience only. The uncertainty is in the assumption, not in the calculation.

The question in the title: Talking to a therapist about this specifically — does this still hold? I will give what I have already checked below so nobody repeats it.

A question about the part of this that nobody puts in a trial report.

The physical side is documented. The rest — how other people respond, what changes socially, what to do with expectations set by other people's accounts — is not, and it is the part I am finding harder.

Maintenance brings a different set of psychological questions from loss, and the discussion here is much thinner on that phase.

Motivation and expectation: starting with clear motivation and realistic expectations about what will happen and when helps with psychological adjustment.

Social and relationship impacts: weight change affects how others perceive and interact with a person. Those impacts are real and can be psychologically significant.

The general answer and the answer for your case may diverge here.

Noted, and thank you for writing it out rather than summarising it.

Support and community: some people process weight change through community (online or in-person). Others prefer privacy. Knowing what you need and seeking it proactively helps.

I would put this at better than even and not much better.

Where a member is finding this hard, the useful reply is usually a question rather than an answer, and this subcategory does that well.

Old habit: I write down the expected answer before I calculate it.

Expectations set by other people's reported trajectories are a documented source of distress, and the trajectories posted are not representative.

The short version is the first sentence; the rest is why.

If you are in crisis, contact a local emergency or crisis service rather than posting. A volunteer forum cannot help and waiting costs time.

Anyone who has looked at this more carefully, please correct the record.

Sensible. I would want the same detail before I acted on it either.

The social side of this — how other people respond to visible change — comes up constantly and has nothing to do with pharmacology.

Take the reasoning and check the arithmetic; I do not always get it right.

That has been true for the cases I have seen and I have not seen many.

On post #18 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.

Motivation and expectation: starting with clear motivation and realistic expectations about what will happen and when helps with psychological adjustment.

I have changed my mind on this once already, so take it as current rather than settled.

Narrowing post #19, because the general version has more than one answer.

Reporting the observation and leaving the explanation open deliberately.
