Small methodological point on shortages: repeating a measurement is cheap and resolves most of what is being argued about here at no cost to anyone.

Coming back to post #61, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.

The published shortage register maintained by the national regulator is the authoritative source here, and it is updated far more often than any thread.

I would hold that lightly until someone with a larger sample weighs in.

Post #61 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.

Where I would push back on the shortages consensus is the confidence, not the direction. The direction looks right. The confidence is borrowed.

Shortages is worth one more sentence than it usually gets, and the sentence is the one about how the number was arrived at.

Shortage status determines what compounding is permitted in some jurisdictions, which links two questions that otherwise seem unrelated.

Shortages sits at the boundary between what this community can usefully discuss and what it cannot, and I think it falls on the discussable side, narrowly.

Confirming post #65 from a second method, which matters more than confirming it from a second person.

Trying to state the shortages position in a way that someone who disagrees would recognise as fair, because I do not think the version in this thread passes that test.

Reports that a pharmacy has stock are the least durable information on the site and are still worth posting with a date.

That is the version I use. It may not be the version that is correct.

On shortages I would separate what is worth knowing from what is worth acting on. The first list is long and the second is short, and conflating them is how threads get heated.
