Wendelboe, post #6: Everything in post #4 holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have. The most useful reply I ever got about publishing an inconvenient result was a request to state my units. It sounds like pedantry and it has saved me twice. Go to post
Picking up post #60: that is the part I would want checked first.
Repeat determination on the same product line months apart is the measurement that speaks to consistency, and consistency is what most buyers actually want.
Caveat: everything above assumes the paperwork is what it says it is.

The reason publishing an inconvenient result keeps being re-asked is that the answer is conditional and people quote it without the condition. It is not that the answer is unknown.
Where two services agree with each other and with the declared figure, that is a genuinely strong result and it applies to that lot.

I had written a reply contradicting post #62 and deleted it. Here is what survived.
Reading back through the publishing an inconvenient result threads from last year, the same three questions come up every time and only one of them has ever been answered properly. That seems like a documentation gap rather than a knowledge gap.

p.novotny, post #14: Blind sampling: submitting without the laboratory or seller knowing the source removes the two easiest ways for a result to be shaped: selective submission and selective reporting. The extra effort is worth it. Go to post
Nobody has said the unglamorous part of publishing an inconvenient result yet, so: most of the variation is explained by things that are boring to write about and easy to check.

On publishing an inconvenient result: the maintained page in the documentation commons covers the general case with citations and a review date, which is more reliable than any reply here including this one.
