Revisiting: The best-written scientific paper you have read

MF
m.ferrandTL1Member23 May 2026#1

Posting this under the heading it deserves: Revisiting: The best-written scientific paper you have read Everything below is what sits behind that.

Asking about best-written scientific paper directly, because I have read four threads on it and each answered a slightly different question.

The version I want answered is the narrow one: given the method stated below, is the result within what anyone else has seen? I am not asking what it means yet.

Method, numbers and the two assumptions I am aware of making are below. If the assumptions are wrong that is more useful to me than agreement.

I think the best-written scientific paper question is answerable and has not been answered, which is a more optimistic position than most of this thread.

Unserious but true: I can now identify a certificate template at a glance and I have no professional use for that skill whatsoever.

Off-topic but genuinely curious: how many people here came in through the analytics side rather than the practical side? The two groups seem to read completely different parts of the site.

This has been discussed before and I could not find the thread, so, again.

Lounge-level thought to close on: the measure of this place is that being wrong in public here is cheap. That is a design decision and it took work.

I have left out the parts I could not verify.

The most useful thing anyone has posted about best-written scientific paper in this category was a table of what had been measured and by whom. That is what I would want again.

This is the sort of exchange that makes the archive worth searching.

A note on scope: what I am saying about best-written scientific paper applies to the case in the first post and I would not extend it further without checking.

Politics and public policy: healthcare policy that affects access to these compounds is relevant here. Partisan politics is not.

I changed my mind about best-written scientific paper after someone here asked me for the source and I could not produce one. That is worth saying out loud because it is the ordinary way it happens.

The documentation on best-written scientific paper is better than this thread and I say that as someone who has posted in the thread.

Industry and supply chain: post about manufacturing, pharmaceutical economics, or market dynamics if you have something substantive to contribute.

Analytics first, in my case, and I still find the practice category the harder read. Chromatography has one right answer more often than logistics does.

That is what I would do. It may not be what is correct.

Right, and stated more narrowly than I would have dared to state it.

My understanding of best-written scientific paper is a few years old and may have been superseded. If it has been, I would genuinely like to know rather than keep repeating it.

The claim about best-written scientific paper upthread is stronger than its source supports. I have read the source. The source says "associated with" and the post says "causes".

A digression that keeps occurring to me: the most-linked documents here are the dullest ones. Nothing gets cited like the unit-arithmetic page.

That has been true for the cases I have seen and I have not seen many.

An observation about best-written scientific paper that I cannot explain and am posting anyway, on the principle that unexplained observations are more useful public than private.

Right — I had this wrong and I am glad to have read it before it mattered.

The arithmetic on best-written scientific paper is the easy part and it is where the errors are, which is an uncomfortable combination. Show your working and someone will catch it.

Something I have wondered without ever asking: is there a good reason the vocabulary in this field is so inconsistent between suppliers? Half the disagreements here start as terminology.

Noted, and thank you for writing it out rather than summarising it.

Since best-written scientific paper keeps coming up, it should probably be a maintained page rather than a recurring thread. I am happy to draft it if someone with more direct experience will review it.

Lounge question, no agenda: does anyone else keep a physical notebook for this rather than a file? Mine is more use than anything I have typed, and I cannot entirely explain why.

Where I would look next, rather than where I would stop.

Counterpoint on best-written scientific paper, offered without confidence: the same observation is consistent with a much duller explanation, and nobody has ruled the dull one out.

On best-written scientific paper I would separate what is worth knowing from what is worth acting on. The first list is long and the second is short, and conflating them is how threads get heated.

Agreed, and the corollary is that a place with no visible corrections is not a place with fewer errors.

Checked the best-written scientific paper claim against the primary source this morning. It survives, with a narrower scope than the version quoted here. Posting the narrower scope.

I read the earlier replies on best-written scientific paper twice before writing this, because I had assumed the opposite and wanted to be sure I was disagreeing with what was said rather than what I expected.
