What consumer-accessible tests can and cannot determine — a second dataset posts 121–132

Post #120 describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.
A home refractometer is not measuring what people hope it is measuring in these preparations, and the readings are dominated by everything other than the peptide.
Worth stating the null on consumer-accessible tests before we explain it: the observation may be nothing. That possibility deserves a sentence and usually does not get one.
Molecular tests: DNA or RNA tests are not applicable to peptides, which do not contain nucleic acids. Peptide-specific tests rely on protein recognition, not nucleic-acid detection.
I would not lead a decision with this, but I would not ignore it either.
My position on consumer-accessible tests is current rather than settled. I have revised it once already and I expect to again, so treat it accordingly.
What you can use home tests for: confirmation that a solution contains peptide (as opposed to being saline alone), rough screening for very different compounds (semaglutide versus totally unrelated compound). What you cannot use them for: precise purity assessment or verification that the identity is correct.
Anyone who has looked at this more carefully, please correct the record.
Coming back to post #124, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.
The honest answer on consumer-accessible tests is that it depends, and the useful part is the list of what it depends on. Four items, in rough order of how much they matter.
Most people get the first two right and then argue about the fourth.
The honest cost comparison is a home kit against a single independent submission. For most people the second answers the question and the first answers a different, smaller one.
It took me longer than it should have to see that.
Sensible. I would want the same detail before I acted on it either.

Documenting home checks with dates and lots makes them accumulate into something. Undocumented ones evaporate and get remembered selectively.
That matches what I was told, which is not the same as knowing it.
