Adding the measurement that post #6 says would settle it. I would put moderate confidence on the mainstream reading of titration planner refuses and no more. That is not scepticism for its own sake; it is where the sourcing actually stops.

Asking directly, because I could not find a straight answer: Why the titration planner refuses to produce a schedule below a floor

Titration planner refuses — I have the observation and I do not trust my interpretation of it, so I am posting the observation and holding the interpretation back.

Numbers, method and the conditions under which they were collected are below. Interpret them however they warrant.

Taking titration planner refuses seriously for a moment rather than deflecting: the honest position is that the community has observations and no controlled comparison, and those two things support very different sentences.

Post #2 answers the question as asked. The question underneath it is different.

Marking my uncertainty on titration planner refuses explicitly. I am confident about the direction, much less confident about the size, and not confident at all that it generalises past the case in the first post.

I read the opening post twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Precision and significant figures: the calculators do not round to match your input precision. If you input values to one decimal place, the output might have more. Use significant figures appropriate to your input precision.

I would hold that lightly until someone with a larger sample weighs in.

Picking up post #2: that is the part I would want checked first.

My experience of titration planner refuses contradicts the reply above. I am posting it as a data point rather than as a refutation, because one person's experience is exactly that.

What I would want before treating titration planner refuses as settled: the method, the sample, and whether anyone tried to find the opposite result. Two of the three are usually missing.

Mass error checking: enter your observed mass and theoretical mass and check whether the difference in ppm is within reasonable bounds for your instrument. Useful sanity check on LC-MS results.

Adding it in case it saves somebody the afternoon it cost me.

Coming back to post #4, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.

A titration planner is a scheduling aid rather than a clinical recommendation, and any tool that presents one as the other is overstepping.

I would not lead a decision with this, but I would not ignore it either.

The most common input error is entering the vial mass in the concentration field. It produces a plausible number, which is why it survives.

If anyone has run this properly I would rather read that than my own guess.

Practical answer on titration planner refuses, since the theoretical one is upthread: do the simplest check first, write down the result, and only then decide whether the complicated explanation is needed. It usually is not.

Rounding behaviour is where two tools disagree. One rounding to the nearest graduation and one to two decimal places will produce different advice from identical inputs.

Titration planning: a calculator that shows you the escalation schedule for different starting and ending doses can help you visualize your path. Actual path might be slower or adjusted for tolerability.

It is a small point and it changes the answer, which is an awkward combination.

A saved calculation is worth more than a remembered one. Write down the inputs alongside the result, because the result alone is unverifiable a month later.

Somebody will have a better source than mine, and I hope they post it.

Speaking only to titration planner refuses as I have actually seen it, rather than as it is usually described: the effect is real, it is smaller than the thread suggests, and the variance between people is larger than the effect.

Dose equivalence calculator: compounds have different potencies. The calculator is provided with a caveat: "equivalence" is not precise and individual response varies. It is a rough starting point, not a dose prescription.

Confirming post #24 from a second method, which matters more than confirming it from a second person.

I disagree with the framing of titration planner refuses above, and I think it is a substantive disagreement rather than a terminological one. Setting out why, so it can be checked.

The reasoning depends on an assumption that is doing a lot of work and is never stated. If the assumption holds, the conclusion follows. I do not think it holds generally.

I had written a reply contradicting post #26 and deleted it. Here is what survived.

Practical note on titration planner refuses: write down what you expect before you look. The number of times I have found what I went looking for is higher than chance would allow.

Narrowing post #28, because the general version has more than one answer.

Significant figures in the output should not exceed what the inputs support. A concentration calculated from a nominal vial mass is not known to four decimal places.

Scoping that to what I have actually seen rather than what I have read.
