Anxiety in the first weeks: drug, situation, or both — what changed since posts 91–96

This is a continuation of a long topic, addressed by post number rather than by page. Start at post 1.

bench_notes, post #5: This is the answer, and the reason it is the answer is the more useful part. Go to post

Confirming post #90 from a second method, which matters more than confirming it from a second person.

Anxiety was covered in the wiki last year and the page has a review date on it, which is a better starting point than my memory of a thread.

I had written a reply contradicting post #88 and deleted it. Here is what survived.

When to involve a professional: if mood changes are persistent, deepen over weeks, or interfere with function, involving a mental health professional is appropriate. These are not trivialities to ignore.

I would rather be precise about what I do not know than vague about what I do.

Sleep and mental health: these compounds can affect sleep for some people. Sleep deprivation worsens mood and anxiety. Addressing sleep separately from mood matters.

Happy to be the one who is wrong here if it settles the question.

Motivation and expectation: starting with clear motivation and realistic expectations about what will happen and when helps with psychological adjustment.

If this contradicts something upthread, the upthread version may well be the better one.

The social side of this — how other people respond to visible change — comes up constantly and has nothing to do with pharmacology.

Speaking for myself and not for anyone else who has posted here.

A definition problem is doing most of the work in this Anxiety discussion. Once the term is pinned down I suspect the disagreement mostly goes away and what is left is small.
