Asking directly, because I could not find a straight answer: Meeting a protein target on a suppressed appetite — does this still hold?

Posting a small dataset on Meeting a protein target. It is mine, it is uncontrolled, and the method is stated so it can be discounted appropriately.

What I would like is not agreement but a second dataset collected by someone with no stake in mine. If one exists I would rather read it than argue for this one.

Distribution across the day appears to matter less than total for most outcomes, and it matters practically because a single large meal is harder when appetite is reduced.

Adding the caveat now so it does not have to be extracted later.

Adding the measurement that post #6 says would settle it.

The mechanism is not mysterious. Substantial energy restriction with inadequate protein and no resistance stimulus loses lean tissue as well as fat.

Practical note on Meeting a protein target: write down what you expect before you look. The number of times I have found what I went looking for is higher than chance would allow.

I had written a reply contradicting post #29 and deleted it. Here is what survived.

What I would want before treating Meeting a protein target as settled: the method, the sample, and whether anyone tried to find the opposite result. Two of the three are usually missing.

Narrowing post #37, because the general version has more than one answer.

The reports here that describe what actually worked, in specifics, are far more useful than the ones stating a target.

Published guidance on protein during weight loss is reasonably consistent and is easy to find, which makes this one of the better-evidenced practical questions here.

r.chukwu, post #29: Adding the measurement that post #28 says would settle it. Eating anything at all: on substantial appetite suppression, eating enough total calories to maintain lean mass is the priority. Protein comes second to total intake. Go to post

I had written a reply contradicting post #48 and deleted it. Here is what survived.

Reframing Meeting a protein target slightly, because I think the disagreement is about the question rather than the answer. If the question is "does it happen", yes. If it is "how often", nobody here knows.

The practical problem is that appetite suppression makes hitting a target genuinely hard, and "eat more protein" ignores the actual constraint.

That is the honest state of it as of this week.
