What a seizure notice actually says

Solved
Solved by b.frisk in post #9

What a seizure notice actually says I have a specific reason for asking rather than idle curiosity, and the context is below.

The question about seizure notice that I actually want answered is the second one below. The first is context and I have kept it short.

Both are stated with units, and I have said what I already checked so that nobody repeats it.

Reframing seizure notice slightly, because I think the disagreement is about the question rather than the answer. If the question is "does it happen", yes. If it is "how often", nobody here knows.

The opening post and I disagree about the size of the effect, not about the direction.

Import restrictions by jurisdiction: what is legal to import for personal use varies enormously by country. Some jurisdictions are quite permissive; others are not. Checking your own country's rules before ordering is prudent.

None of the above is medical advice and I am not qualified to give any.

Notice of a delay before the quoted window elapses is a materially different service experience from notice afterwards, and it is worth recording which happened.

If anyone can point at the primary source I would be grateful.

The bit of seizure notice that nobody enjoys is that the answer changes depending on what you are trying to decide with it. Say what the decision is and the thread will converge.

The arithmetic in post #5 is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check.

Second-hand on seizure notice, so weight it accordingly — someone whose method I trust told me this and I have not verified it myself.

Anyone deciding whether a delay is a problem should ask what would change if they waited another week. Usually the answer is nothing.

The claim is narrower than it sounds, and deliberately so.

I have three months of notes on seizure notice and the honest summary is that the trend is real and the week-to-week numbers are noise. I nearly drew the opposite conclusion from the first fortnight.

I will take the caveat as seriously as the claim, which is the point of putting it there.

Reshipment after seizure: if a parcel is seized, some suppliers will reship; others will not. That is a supplier choice and should be understood before ordering in a jurisdiction with higher seizure risk.

Where I would look next, rather than where I would stop.

Post #8 put the caveat in the right place and I want to underline it.

If you are new and reading this thread for the answer to seizure notice: the answer is conditional, the conditions are in the third reply, and the rest of the thread is worth skipping.

Offering a way to settle seizure notice rather than another opinion about it. Two measurements, taken the same way, a fortnight apart. If the difference is within the noise, the question was not answerable at this precision.

Document outcomes rather than forecasting them. A forecast in this category reads as reassurance and is not one.

That is all I can say without guessing.

Post #15 answers the question as asked. The question underneath it is different.

Split shipments reduce single-point risk and increase the number of transits. Which trade is right depends on what you are protecting against.

The step people skip is the one I have spelled out.

The arithmetic on seizure notice is the easy part and it is where the errors are, which is an uncomfortable combination. Show your working and someone will catch it.

On seizure notice, I would rather understate and be corrected upward than overstate and be quoted. That is a house style here and it is a good one.

Taking post #21 at face value and following it one step further.

Reading this seizure notice thread as someone who came in with a fixed view: the third and seventh replies moved me and the confident ones did not.

Adding it in case it saves somebody the afternoon it cost me.

Building on post #26 rather than restating it.

What I would check first on seizure notice is whether the thing being measured moved or whether the way of measuring it moved. Those look identical in a graph.

The reason seizure notice is hard to answer is that the obvious measurement and the relevant quantity are not the same thing, and substituting one for the other is silent.

Post #29 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.

Document outcomes rather than forecasting them. A forecast in this category reads as reassurance and is not one.

Not a strong opinion, just a consistent one.
