Storing a pen in use versus a pen unopened — what changed since

Posting this under the heading it deserves: Storing a pen in use versus a pen unopened — what changed since Everything below is what sits behind that.

What changes if the standard account of Storing a pen is wrong? I ask because I have been treating it as settled and I noticed this week that I could not say why.

Working through the consequences rather than the evidence, since others here are better placed on the evidence.

Off-label dosing with a pen: if you want to deliver a dose different from the pen's pre-set steps (e.g., halfway between two step doses), that is off-label use. Some pens allow it; others do not. Confirm before attempting.

Priming: most pens require priming before the first use (injecting a small amount to fill the needle and line). Not priming can result in no dose being delivered on the first injection.

I would want to see it done twice before believing it once.
