When to stop reading forums, including this one I have a specific reason for asking rather than idle curiosity, and the context is below.

Something that has come up for me and that I suspect is more common than the discussion suggests.

It is not a side effect in the labelling sense and it is not nothing. It has changed over 11 weeks in a direction I did not expect.

Nothing here is advice from me to anybody, and I would like to hear how other people have thought about it.

au.pereira, post #20: Social and relationship impacts: weight change affects how others perceive and interact with a person. Those impacts are real and can be psychologically significant. Nothing above should be read as advice about what anyone else should do. Go to post

Picking up post #26: that is the part I would want checked first.

Comparing your own experience to a trial average is a poor use of a trial average, particularly for outcomes as variable as this one.

I would hold that lightly until someone with a larger sample weighs in.

a.vermeulen, post #12: Where I part company with post #8, and it is a narrow parting. Motivation and expectation: starting with clear motivation and realistic expectations about what will happen and when helps with psychological adjustment. Go to post

Answering the question post #26 raises rather than the one it answers.

Expectations set by other people's reported trajectories are a documented source of distress, and the trajectories posted are not representative.

The arithmetic in post #44 is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check.

Maintenance brings a different set of psychological questions from loss, and the discussion here is much thinner on that phase.

If this contradicts something upthread, the upthread version may well be the better one.

j.hartmann, post #53: Support and community: some people process weight change through community (online or in-person). Others prefer privacy. Knowing what you need and seeking it proactively helps. Go to post

Post #52 put the caveat in the right place and I want to underline it.

Expectations set by other people's reported trajectories are a documented source of distress, and the trajectories posted are not representative.

It is one reading of the data and not the only reasonable one.

l.sarkissian, post #26: The social side of this — how other people respond to visible change — comes up constantly and has nothing to do with pharmacology. It cost nothing to check and would have cost something not to. Go to post

Worth separating two things that post #62 runs together.

Where a member is finding this hard, the useful reply is usually a question rather than an answer, and this subcategory does that well.

Worth saying I have only my own numbers here, and n is small.

b.demir, post #37: Adding the measurement that post #36 says would settle it. Expectations set by other people's reported trajectories are a documented source of distress, and the trajectories posted are not representative. Go to post

Nothing here is medical advice and several members in this subcategory say plainly that they are describing their own experience only.

I am describing what is, rather than arguing for what should be.

mira.patel, post #47: If you are in crisis, contact a local emergency or crisis service rather than posting. A volunteer forum cannot help and waiting costs time. Go to post

Isolation is a common thread in accounts here and is one of the few things a community can genuinely help with.

That is the distinction I keep failing to hold on to. Written down now.
